IN/SEKT has been selected as the award-winning work of Gyeongsangbuk-do International AI Metaverse Film Festival in South Korea
A project by audiovisual artists Simon Šerc and Martina Testen received an award at the international film festival Gyeongbuk International AI and Metaverse Film Festival (GAMFF) that was held the past weekend in South Korea. In/sekt was picked among 527 films and videos from 42 countries, including the US, China, Japan and India.
Šerc and Testen’s work, Genesis: the Beginning of a New Era and the Evolution of Artificial Intelligence, links the image of insects to technological signals, combining nature and technology. Such a fusion not only sheds light on the subjective nature of the perception of time, but also highlights how technology, with its ubiquity, shapes and redefines our understanding of time and space, sources close to the artists said.
In In/Sect, the artists explore the possibilities that AI brings to storytelling and bridging the gap between the organic and the digital. The project was created with the help of AI systems and has already been screened at various international events in Italy, Spain and the UK.
The festival, held in South Korea’s high-tech hub Gumi, brought together AI experts, film directors and the general public. The competition was divided into film and video categories and the jury was made up of film and technology experts, headed by Korean film director Lee Jang-ho.
The prize-winning works have been awarded a total of 35 million South Korean Won (around EUR 24,000), and all the selected films will be screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California in October.
